Firewire is an outdated technology but nothing is better at transferring miniDV tapes from an old camcorder. Unfortunately, most Firewire cards don’t work on modern versions of Windows. Read the reviews of other cards and you’ll see frustration with driver issues, computer lockups, and less-than-perfect transfers. I gave this card a shot because it specifically said: “for Windows 10” in the description. This card has a Molex power port and I wonder if that might be part of the reason it works so well. My PC still has Molex cables but a SATA to Molex adapter should work. I was able to digitize all my tapes using the included Firewire cable and free WinDV software.
